Mike Maran Productions present Captain Corelli’s Mandolin at the Dukes on Saturday 5th May at 8.30pm. The hugely popular Louis de Bernieres novel is brought to the stage as an operetta for a storyteller, two musicians, three puppets, a tuba, motorbike and a goat.

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is an epic romance set on the Greek island of Cephalonia. The story starts during the Second World War and continues up until the present day. Dr. Iannis, his daughter Pelagia, heroic soldier Carlo Guercio and Capt.

Antonio Corelli all share a love that endures through war, peace, tragedy and enemy lines. Mike Maran’s production is a masterpiece of storytelling and musicianship, bringing to the fore the subtlest of nuances from de Bernieres’ skilfully crafted original.

Music plays a strong part in the performance and there is virtuoso playing from Alison Stephens on mandolin, guitar, trumpet, tuba and drums and Anne Evans on piano and flute. Their music is woven into the action or used as a brief interlude.

There are only a few tickets left for this performance, but the Dukes are considering adding another performance to the schedule at 6pm, subject to demand. If you are interested please call the Dukes.
