The Hound of the Baskervilles is the Dukes thirteenth season of promenade thatre in Williamson Park. Over the years the monumnet has been Toad Hall, a sea coast, Arthur's Round Table and The Admiral Benbow - whilst the grounds have been Prospero's cell, the Emerald City and the Holy Grail. The Gorge has been The Kingdom of Pan, Munchkinland and The Wastelands and The Dell has guised itself as a witch's castle and a stockade.
The actors experience of the park is always a unique one, with costume changes in trees, switching mic packs in bushes and generally getting fit, very fast. This year the actors found themselves doubling as children's entertainers when the technical rehearsal co-insided (sic) with a children's birthday partyin the Council Chamber. The show went on amid remote controlled cars, jelly and ice cream, and the sound of 2-7 year olds singing Happy Birthday and chanting 'E I adio we want to see the show!'.
From July 15th - August 21st, every night promises to be an evening of terror, intrigue and laughter as The Ashton Memorial takes on its new role as Baskervill hall and sets the scene for all manner of dastardly deeds and mysterious happenings. Arrive early to join in with some surprise action and colourful excitement and you could take home a special prize. Later in the evening as you venture from scene to scene keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked as you look for clues that may help to unravel the mystery of the Moor. Whatever you do, be warned, behind the whistling winds and rustli8ng leves may lurk the Hound, the curse that haunts the Baskerville family name.
For the audience The Hound of the Baskervilles provide an unparalleled event, a spectacle, an experience.
