Ian Hasting appointed as the new Artistic Director

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

The Dukes Playhouse in Lancaster is set to re-establish itself as the premier regional venue for theatre, cinema and the arts with the appointment of Ian Hastings as the new Artistic Director.

Ian joins The Dukes after seven years as the Associate Artistic Director at The Bristol Old Vic and promises the community of Lancaster as artistic vision which is accessible, affordable, memorable and above all, a unique experience. His commitment to education and outreach activities will also increase awareness of The Dukes Youth Arts Centre, a vital part of the theatre's service to all members of the community.

Ian will bring a tremendous amount of experience to the Dukes. Prior to being at the Bristol Old Vic, he was the Associate Director at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre and has also been the Young Peoples Director at Bolton Octagon. He has received critical acclaim for many of his productions, with his shows achieving three Manchester Evening News Drama Awards. Before becoming a director, Ian was a successful actor, touring in Hamlet with Robert Lindsay and appearing in television series including the Stars Look Down and The Spoils of War as well as the film Give My Regards to Broad Street.

Ian, Who will take up his post in July, said "The Dukes is a fantastic venue with many creative and educational opportunities. I look forward to building strong partnerships with the community and making the theatre a place of which the people of Lancaster can be proud"
