Press Release
Photographic Exhibition at the Dukes
An exhibition of black and white photographs entitled Actors Reading by George Coupe will be on display at the Dukes Gallery from Tuesday 17th April until Friday 4th May 2001.
George Coupe has worked closely with the director and cast for each Dukes drama production since American Buffalo in January 1999, to capture the acting process from the day that the cast arrive in Lancaster until the very last dress rehearsal before the first night. It is a process that George finds fascinating and the photographs show the intensity of the three-week rehearsal period.
This exhibition, as the title suggests, portrays the intense concentration and awareness required of the actor to be able to transfer the words on a page to a piece of drama that finally becomes a reality for both the actor and the audience.
George has captured this process for several Dukes productions; American Buffalo, Talking Heads, Don Quixote, The Glass Menagerie and The Lodger with amazing results. For anyone that saw these productions, the exhibition will offer a real insight into the Dukes work. For those people that didnt go to the shows, the photographs offer the viewer strong and striking portraits of people working hard on their art and in total absorption of their work.
Entry to the exhibition is free, and open 10am-10pm Monday to Saturday.
