PRESS RELEASE

HAIKU POETRY AT THE DUKES

A free event at the Dukes on Saturday 30th September 2000 11am 5pm, Haiku Connections, welcomes anyone interested in poetry to come along - no experience is necessary.

Haiku is poetry rooted in everyday experience.  For Haiku Connections, two established haiku poets will be on hand to assist members of the public to realise the poetry of their daily lives and shape it into haiku form.  Poet Fred Schofield is events co-ordinator for the British Haiku Society and Martin Lucas is co-editor of the Iron Book of British Haiku and is editor of The Haiku Magazine, “Preserve”.

The whole event last for six hours and members of the public are invited to join in for as long or as little as they like, at anytime during the event.  It is intended that the individual verses will be linked to make a chain of poems that create a vivid mosaic of experience and imagination.  It will then be published as attractive posters as well as in pamphlet form.

Anyone interested is invited to book in advance or just drop in on the day.  Haiku Connections takes place in the Dukes Gallery/Meeting Room.  For advance bookings please call the Dukes Box Office.
