Bowness on Windermere - often shortened to Bowness by locals and visitors alike.
Half-way along lake Windermere, Bowness is one of the most popular destinations in the lake district. It's readily accessible, full of souvenir shops and has all the services and facilities demanded by the modern visitor.
The road passes through the town right next to the side of the lake where the pleasure steamers stop. You can hire boats too. There is a good selection of hotels and other accommodation, shopping and ready access to other parts of the lake district.
It can be very busy during the summer, making car parking difficult and expensive.
