Carnforth
Carnforth is a small town situated on the A6 a few miles north of Lancaster. There are a number of interesting shops along the high street, including several second hand book shops.
In addition there is the famous railway station which has old locomotives - more details of which are here
Some years ago I took my sons there and had a great day out, so can recommend it. Easy access from the M6 if you are driving.
