Grasmere
Grasmere is located about 5km (3 miles) north west of Ambleside, near the head of lake Windermere and on the side of Grasmere lake.
The town is in a shallow hollow, surrounded by hills. Perhaps its most famous resident was William Wordsworth who lived at Dove Cottage on the outskirts of the village. He is buried in the churchyard along with many members of his family.
There are a number of yew trees nearby which he himself planted - a wonderfully romantic thought that one should be buried under such a long-lived tree which one planted.
Worthy of his poetic language.
