Kirkby-Lonsdale
Sometimes mis-spelt as Kirby Londsale
First week in September is the time to visit if you like Victoriana, this is the time when the town's clock is turned back to the Victorian era with street vendors, dressing up and associated fun and games.
Other interesting things nearby are Ruskin's View, a sight described by Ruskin as 'possibly the best view in the world', or words to that effect, quite something.
The Devil's Bridge.
Legend has it that there was once a poor widow woman whose only cow was on the other side of the river Lune, in return for providing the bridge the devil was to be given the soul of the first living creature to cross the bridge. On completion of the bridge the widow threw her dog across the bridge and so avoided the penalty of her bargain with the devil.
Look out for a signpost in the market square directing you to the bridge via a short walk. This walk passes Ruskin's View.
