Kendal
Kendal - one of the easiest places to reach in the lake district and an excellent shopping centre.
My memory of Kendal is coloured by eating delicious Kendal mint cake , which I remember from being a child. It comes in two colours, brown and white, I always preferred the brown and still do. Even now I can't go to Kendal without indulging myself in a small cake.
If you are traveling to Kendal by car, you will find the one way system somewhat trying. How the local population tolerates it I can't understand. More recently the direction of some of the one-way streets has been reversed, what gets into the heads of 'town planners' is a complete mystery to me.
Once you get into the town itself parking is not too bad. Head for the multi-storey car park at the shopping centre. In this centre you will find a wide variety of shops.
Outside the main road offers other good shopping with several small arcades off it. There is a cobbled market area, where open stalls offer interesting things from food to fancy goods.
There are plenty of good coffee shops too.
A little way out from the town centre is the leisure centre.
